Ramadan 2027 in the UK: Dates, Fasting Hours and What to Expect

Ramadan 1448 AH is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027 in the UK. The crescent moon is due to be looked for on the evening of Sunday 7 February. If it is sighted, the first fast follows at dawn the next morning.

Eid al-Fitr is expected on Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March 2027. Which day it falls on depends on whether the month lasts 29 or 30 days, and that is only settled once the new crescent is sighted.

Why the dates keep moving

The Islamic calendar is lunar. A Hijri year has roughly 354 days, about eleven fewer than the Gregorian year of 365. So Ramadan begins around ten to eleven days earlier each year. Compared with Ramadan 2026, the 2027 start is about eleven days earlier.

Over roughly 33 years, Ramadan cycles through every season. It has already moved from the long summer days of the 2010s into deep winter, and in the early 2030s it will begin to drift into the shorter days of January.

Why 2027 is a gentler Ramadan for British Muslims

Fasting runs from dawn (Fajr) to sunset (Maghrib), so the season matters a great deal at UK latitudes.

  • Start of Ramadan (early February): roughly 11 to 11½ hours, depending on location.
  • End of Ramadan (early March): roughly 12½ to 13 hours as the days lengthen.

This is among the shortest fasts Muslims in Britain can experience. Compare that with the summer Ramadans of 2014 to 2017, when fasts in London ran to about 18 hours and in Glasgow and other northern cities even longer. Shorter days mean an earlier iftar, less time without water, and easier evenings for work, study and family.

Why UK communities may not all start on the same day

Moon sighting is not uniform across the UK. Different communities follow different methods:

  • Local sighting: some mosques wait for a sighting from within the UK.
  • Overseas sighting: others follow announcements from Saudi Arabia or another country.
  • Astronomical calculation: others use calculated dates, which can be set well in advance.

It is common for Ramadan or Eid to differ by a day between neighbouring mosques. Check with your local mosque before making firm plans, especially for Eid.

How to prepare

  • Book time off early. Eid is a working day in the UK, so request leave in advance, keeping in mind that the date might shift by a day.
  • Adjust your routine gradually. With short winter days, cutting back on caffeine and shifting your sleep pattern a week or two ahead will ease the first few days.
  • Plan suhoor and iftar. Slow-release foods such as oats, eggs, dates, lentils and plenty of fluids between iftar and Fajr help you sustain the fast.
  • Note the late nights. Ramadan ends in early March, so the last ten nights, which include Laylat al-Qadr, will fall in the last days of Feb and early March, with cold evenings for taraweeh.

Dates are provisional and based on astronomical calculation. Final confirmation depends on moon sighting.

Laylat al-Qadr 2027: The Odd Nights

The Night of Power sits somewhere among the odd nights of the final ten. The 27th is the one most widely observed across the UK, though the scholarly position has always been to seek it across all of them rather than betting everything on one date.

One thing to hold onto: the Islamic day begins at maghrib, not at midnight. So the “night of the 27th” means the evening before the 27th day.

Odd nights of the last ten, Ramadan 1448

Worth planning around: the 27th night falls on a Friday in 2027, running into Saturday morning. If you have always wanted to spend the whole night at the masjid without dreading a 7am alarm, this is your year.

Approximate first-day times. Always use your local mosque timetable.

Treat this as a planning guide, not a timetable to fast by. UK mosques use different calculation angles for Fajr, and that alone can move suhoor by fifteen or twenty minutes between two masjids on the same street. Your local timetable is the one that counts.

Something people regularly get wrong: the further north you go, the later the clock times, but the fast itself stays roughly the same length. Glasgow’s sunset is later than London’s, and so is Glasgow’s dawn. In February the two cancel each other out almost exactly.

The fasts get longer as the month goes on

Ramadan 2027 runs into early March, heading towards the spring equinox, so the days stretch throughout. Week one is around eleven and a half hours. By the final ten nights you are closer to thirteen.

Plan your sleep with that in mind. The last stretch is noticeably harder than the first, and it arrives exactly when you most want energy for the night prayers.

When is Eid 2027 in the UK?

Eid al-Fitr 2027 is expected on Tuesday 9 March or Wednesday 10 March. Which of the two depends entirely on the Shawwal moon sighting on the 29th night.

If you are putting in for annual leave, book both days. You will not know for certain until the evening before, and every single year people in the UK lose half of Eid to a leave request that guessed the wrong date. Two days off costs you very little. Getting it wrong costs you the morning prayer.

Eid al-Adha 2027 is expected around Sunday 16 May, with the Day of Arafah on Saturday 15 May 2027.

Cheap Ramadan Umrah Packages 2027 from the UK

If spending Ramadan 2027 in Makkah is on your mind, act now rather than in January. Ramadan is the busiest Umrah season of the year by a wide margin, and the last ten nights go six to eight months ahead. People who wait until the new year end up either paying a premium or staying two kilometres out and shuttling in for every prayer.

Al Marwah Travel arranges ATOL-protected Umrah packages built around the Ramadan 1448 calendar, departing from London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bradford, Leeds, Glasgow and other UK airports.

Ramadan 2027 Umrah packages from Al Marwah Travel

Every package covers return flights, Nusuk-compliant hotels in Makkah and Madinah, all ground transfers, and full visa support handled as a single linked chain. That last point matters more than it sounds. Saudi rules now require your hotel and transport to be verified on Nusuk before a visa can be approved, and splitting those across separate providers is a common reason applications fail.

Groups of six or more usually bring the per-person cost down by 5 to 10%, which is why so many UK mosques run an annual party. We can also sort ground-floor rooms, wheelchair access and dietary requirements, but tell us when you book rather than on arrival.

Not sure which length fits? Send us your dates and your budget and we will tell you honestly what is realistic, including the times when a shorter trip nearer the Haram beats a longer one further out. It usually does.
